About TouchNumbers Flash Cards

Created for my daughter, who finds math challenging but never gives up trying to succeed, TouchNumbers Flash Cards is an easy-to-use, touch-based math flash card app that's perfect for the entire family, and great for extra practice as part of remote learning. Practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with numbers from 0 to 999.

Get random problems from multiple difficulty levels, review individual facts (1+1, 2+1, 3+1, etc.), families (1+?=10, 2+?=10, etc.), or test yourself with special modes like doubles, squares, and time or money-related numbers. Increase the difficulty by turning on "mixed" answer mode where the missing number can be anywhere in the problem (1+?=2, ?+5=6, ?-7=3, 10X?=80, etc.). Each operator has its own settings and can be turned off so you can practice on a hard level for one, an easy level for another, and turn others off completely.

Support for multiple users and all recent device types (requires iOS 11 or newer) in one app mean you can use TouchNumbers Flash Cards with the entire family. Resume right where you left off after a break or phone call.

Choose from one of 10 themes including animals, paint, space, chalkboard, and more.

Swipe or shake to erase an answer or skip the card if no answer is entered (skipped cards will eventually return). Tap the card to check your answer. For an added challenge, cards do not repeat in most modes until all have been answered, and answers are entered using a keypad (not multiple choice!). Turn on the option to show the correct answer as a learning aid.

Checks and "x"es (and optional sound) let you know if your answer was correct. If not (or if you just entered the wrong numbers) a unique optional second-chance feature lets you try the same card again. Optionally, turn on rounds of configurable length to get a report of how many were correct--use it as a quiz!

Thanks to all who have downloaded!

Policies

TouchNumbers Flash Cards is completely kid (and parent!) friendly.

It does not display ads, no longer (since version 1.2.1) has any internet connectivity at all, and does not provide social networking or communication functions. It does not use the camera, microphone, location services, GPS, WiFi, or Bluetooth.

The user must enter a name, which can optionally be their real name, for purposes of identifying different users of the app on one device. For each user, this user name and information about which settings were used and the current state of the game (including the last 25 cards used) is retained locally until the user or app is deleted. This information is backed up with the rest of your app's settings when you back up your iDevice to either a computer or iCloud, but it does not use iCloud document storage or syncing.

No information is sent anywhere or retained outside of the device other than as stated above.

Each operand (addition, subtraction, multiplication or division) can be set to Off or one of several modes. If a mode other than off is chosen, new options appear to control that mode.

    • Off: disables this operator
    • Facts: all problems shown will include the selected numbers
    • Families: common families of problems that result in the same answer, for example all addition problems that result in an answer of 10.
    • Random: problems will be chosen using pre-set criteria that control the maximum value of problem components and answers
    • Special: problems will be randomly chosen but will be constrained to a pattern which varies by operator:
      • Addition/Subtraction: Doubles, Doubles Plus One, Doubles Plus Two, Time (12-based) and Money (1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 based)
      • Multiplication/Division: Square/square roots, Weeks (7-based), Months (12-based)

Answer Only/Mixed: Switch between the missing part of the problem being the answer, or any random part. For example in Answer Only mode a problem would read "1 + 2 = ?", while in Mixed mode the same problem could be either "1 + 2 = ?", "? + 2 = 3", or "1 + ? = 3"

Other Settings (below the four operand settings))

    • Adjust the round length or turn rounds off.
    • Allow a second chance. When this is enabled you will be allowed to try again if you get a problem wrong.
    • Review correct answer. When this is enabled the correct answer will be shown after answering incorrectly.
    • Enable or disable sound effects (these also respect the device volume and silent settings.
  • Screenshot User Manager
